Choose the network before the tag
Pixel Tag and AirTag 2 do not compete on a neutral network. Pixel Tag reports through Google Find Hub; AirTag 2 reports through Apple Find My. That ecosystem choice controls setup, sharing and which nearby phones can help report a lost item.
A household with both Android and iPhone users should decide who owns and manages the tracker. Pebblebee Clip 5 can be reset for either network, but it still joins only one network at a time.
Basic pairing and precision are different tests
Passing the basic software requirement does not guarantee directional finding. Pixel Tag needs Android 9 or later for core Find Hub use, while its UWB mode also needs a UWB phone and modern Android support. Bluetooth Channel Sounding adds another requirement: Android 16 plus verified Bluetooth 6 hardware.
AirTag 2 requires iOS 26.2.1 or later. Apple limits improved Precision Finding to iPhone Air or iPhone 15 and later, excluding iPhone 16e. Older UWB-equipped iPhones can therefore meet the software requirement without receiving the improved AirTag 2 experience.
Wallet, keys and luggage
Pixel Tag is the thinner device, so it is the more plausible choice for a wallet pocket. Neither tracker has a built-in attachment opening, which means keys and luggage usually require an added holder.
For luggage, crowd-network reach matters more than room-scale precision. Choose the network used by the phone that will travel with the bag, and treat UWB as a final-few-metres feature rather than long-range tracking.
Price is only the first cost
Both products share a $29 US headline price and a $99 four-pack price. The real cost can include a holder, regional taxes and the possibility that advanced features require a newer phone.
Do not upgrade a phone solely to unlock a tracker feature without comparing that cost with a simpler Bluetooth-only tag. A cheaper tag on the correct network is usually more useful than advanced hardware on an unsupported phone.
What is confirmed and what is not
AirTag 2 specifications are supported by an Apple technical document. Pixel Tag dimensions, durability, battery claim, compatibility and precision features are now documented by Google Store and Google Support; retail performance has not yet been tested.
Pixel Tag speaker volume, real-world Find Hub reporting speed and practical battery life should remain marked as unverified until retail units ship. This comparison deliberately separates those unknowns from published specifications.

Can Pixel Tag work with an iPhone?
No. Pixel Tag is designed for Google Find Hub on Android. Choose an Apple Find My tracker for an iPhone.
Can AirTag 2 pair with Android?
No. An Android phone can read Lost Mode information over NFC, but it cannot normally set up and manage AirTag 2.
Which tracker is thinner?
Pixel Tag is listed at 5.4 mm thick, compared with 8 mm for AirTag 2.
Are both products available everywhere?
